PretoriaThe N1 between Pretoria, Johannesburg and Bloemfontein offers - besides the cities themselves - only a few highlights. North of Winburg the Willem Pretorius Game Reserve in the Free State is a worthwhile stop-over. This small game reserve lies at a dam, offering a good game stock (rhinos, buffalos and giraffes amongst others) and very nice accommodation (chalets) overlooking the dam.

Big Hole in KimberleyThe N12 via Kimberley is the alternative route. The road is very good, yet much less travelled than the N1. Kimberley is the centre of diamond mining in South Africa. The town with the "Big Hole" offers a lot to visitors. Accommodation of any range is available.
